PCI bus mastering allows for the removal of PCI devices without first powering down the system. PCI bus mastering allows multiple PCI devices to run simultaneously without locking each other out. PCI bus mastering makes use of direct memory access (DMA) to pass control of the bus to the PCIdevices. PCI bus mastering allows PCI devices to transfer data to and from each other without referencing the CPUor the system memory.
