Job Description

As a Nurse at UC San Diego Health, you will be part of a Magnet designated organization, recognized for nursing excellence. Autonomous nursing care is a key aspect of your role, where you will assess and provide appropriate nursing actions based on your competence and expertise. Your practice is expected to align with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, exercising independent judgment within interdisciplinary approaches. Minimum qualifications for this position include being a graduate from an accredited Nursing school, holding an RN License issued by the State of California, and possessing BLS and ACLS certifications at the time of hire. Additionally, you should have at least four years of recent adult ICU RN experience, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to function in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating empathy and kindness to all. Preferred qualifications consist of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, five or more years of critical care RN experience, CCRN certification, CRRT experience, and familiarity with Cardiac Devices such as Impella, IABP, and Swan-Ganz catheter. Progressive leadership/unit involvement is also valued. Special conditions include the ability to work various hours, shifts, and locations based on business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. As a per diem nurse, you are expected to work an average of one shift per week, be available for two weekend shifts every four weeks, and one major holiday, subject to change based on department needs. If employed by UC, compliance with the Policy on Vaccination Programs is mandatory. Life-support certifications must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment.
