Job Description

PSD Design Manager

1. System Architecture & Conceptual Design

  • Develop the overall system architecture for PSDs, including mechanical layout, electrical interfaces, and control logic.

  • Define design criteria based on project requirements, safety standards (e.g., EN 50126/50128/50129), and environmental conditions.

  • Lead feasibility studies and site-specific customization for new or retrofit installations.

2. Detailed Engineering Design

  • Oversee the creation of detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and schematics for:

    • Door panels and drive mechanisms

    • Track interface and anchoring systems

    • Electrical wiring and control cabinets

    • Human-machine interfaces (HMI) and emergency systems

  • Ensure integration with signaling systems, train detection, and station infrastructure.

3. Design Validation & Prototyping

  • Conduct design reviews, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and risk assessments.

  • Supervise the development and testing of mock-ups or prototypes to validate mechanical and control performance.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure design-for-manufacture (DFM) and design-for-installation (DFI) principles are met.

4. Interface & Integration Design

  • Coordinate with civil, signaling, rolling stock, and communications teams to manage interface control documents (ICDs).

  • Ensure PSD design aligns with platform edge tolerances, train door positions, and emergency egress requirements.

  • Design for redundancy, fail-safe operation, and manual override mechanisms.

5. Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain:

    • Design specifications

    • Bill of Materials (BOM)

    • Installation and commissioning manuals

    • As-built drawings

  • Ensure compliance with international standards (e.g., ISO, IEC, NFPA) and local authority regulations.

6. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Present design concepts and updates to clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies.

  • Incorporate feedback from operations, maintenance, and safety teams into iterative design improvements.

  • Support tendering and technical bid evaluations with design input.
