Job Description

The role of a Legal Assistant (Paralegal) involves handling various tasks related to Intellectual Property (IP) law. Your responsibilities will include: - Preparing and filing applications for trademarks, patents, and copyrights with the relevant authorities. This includes drafting legal documents such as power of attorney, assignments, licenses, and affidavits. - Managing filing deadlines to ensure timely submissions of applications and renewals. - Assisting in conducting trademark, patent, and copyright searches to verify the originality of clients" IP. You will analyze search reports and advise clients on trademark availability or potential conflicts. - Maintaining and updating records of clients" intellectual property portfolios, including renewals, filings, and assignments. You will track the status of IP applications and keep clients informed of progress. - Communicating with clients regarding IP matters, gathering necessary information, and providing status updates. You will also draft correspondence to IP offices, agents, and other stakeholders on behalf of the firm. - Performing legal research on intellectual property laws, regulations, and precedents. You will assist in preparing legal opinions and reports for clients and attorneys. - Assisting in preparing documents for IP-related disputes, oppositions, and litigation. This includes organizing and managing case files, discovery documents, and evidence. - Maintaining databases, managing deadlines, and scheduling meetings or hearings related to IP filings. You will also provide support to the legal team with day-to-day administrative tasks. Required Skills: - Knowledge of IP Law: Understanding of trademark, patent, and copyright laws and procedures. - Attention to Detail: Accuracy in filing and preparing legal documents is essential. - Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple deadlines and handle large volumes of paperwork. - Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication for client and team interactions. - Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting legal research and analyzing IP issues.
