Major Roles & Responsibilities OT Technician

Preoperative Preparation
Prepare the operating room before surgery by ensuring all equipment, instruments, and sterile materials are ready
Assist in positioning the patient on the operating table according to the procedure
Help surgeons and nurses with gowning and gloving under sterile conditions

Equipment Management
Set up, test, and operate surgical equipment such as lights, suction machines, and monitors
Ensure all surgical instruments are sterilized and functioning properly
Maintain an inventory of surgical supplies and request replenishment as needed

Assisting During Surgery
Hand over instruments and surgical tools to surgeons and nurses during procedures
Monitor the functioning of OT equipment and assist with any adjustments required
Handle specimens for laboratory analysis under sterile conditions

Infection Control & Safety
Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols
Sterilize the OT before and after procedures
Dispose of waste materials according to hospital guidelines

Postoperative Duties
Clean and prepare the OT for the next surgery
Assist in shifting the patient to the recovery room or ICU
Ensure proper documentation of instruments and materials used

Emergency Response
Be prepared to assist in emergency surgeries at any time
React quickly and efficiently to any intraoperative emergencies

Documentation & Coordination
Record details of surgical procedures and equipment usage
Coordinate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff
Report any malfunctioning equipment or procedural delays to supervisors
