Preoperative Preparation: Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and necessary equipment. Check sterilization and availability of required surgical packs and supplies. Scrub Role Duties: Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure timely instrument handling. Maintain aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure. Instrument and Equipment Handling: Ensure proper functioning and sterilization of surgical instruments before and after the surgery. Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery along with circulating nurse. Patient Safety and Documentation: Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent with the surgical team. Document intraoperative nursing care and instrument usage as per hospital protocols. Postoperative Responsibilities: Assist in safe transfer of the patient to recovery or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Clean, disinfect, and prepare the OT for the next surgery. Team Coordination: Coordinate with anesthetists, circulating nurses, and surgeons to ensure smooth OT flow. Participate in surgical team briefings and debriefings. Compliance and Safety: Follow infection control, sterilization, and waste disposal protocols strictly. Adhere to hospital safety, emergency, and quality control policies.
