Job Description of EHS Head 

The EHS Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures in accordance with local/ state regulations, as well as industry standards. The role supports organizational compliance, promotes a culture of safety, and ensures environmental sustainability through proactive risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. EHS Policies and Procedures
  • Design, develop, update, and communicate EHS policies, standards, and procedures aligned with applicable regulations and industry best practices.
  • Promote understanding and ensure organization-wide compliance with EHS policies.
  1. Regulatory Compliance
  • Monitor and stay current on all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure organizational adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Manage Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations for Plastic, E-Waste, and Battery including:
    • Authorization processes
    • Recycler capability identification
    • Data collection, analysis, and compilation
    • Coordination with relevant departments
    • Monitoring of credit transfers and annual return submissions
  1. Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • Identify potential environmental, health, and safety hazards across the organization.
  • Conduct and document risk assessments (e.g., HIRA, EIA) and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Implement preventive measures to minimize risks, accidents, and environmental impacts.
  1. EHS Culture Building
  • Establish safety committees or appoint safety champions in each location and department.
  • Conduct monthly progress meetings with sub-committees.
  • Organize and follow up on regular audits and associated corrective actions.
  1. Safety Training and Education
  • Plan and implement monthly health and safety campaigns.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs for all employees.
  • Ensure all staff are adequately trained on safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through continuous education and awareness initiatives.
  1. Incident Investigation and Reporting
  • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Analyze incident trends through data compilation and reporting.
  • Prepare action plans for improvement based on findings.
  • Submit required regulatory reports and maintain documentation.
  1. Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and assess effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance emergency readiness.
  1. Environmental Stewardship
  • Initiate programs to reduce the organization's environmental footprint.
  • Monitor key environmental performance metrics and recommend improvements.
  • Champion sustainability practices and environmentally responsible initiatives.
  1. Leadership and Collaboration
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the EHS team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed EHS into core business operations.
  • Regularly report EHS performance and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Conduct monthly EHS review meetings with top management for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional certification(s) preferred (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO 45001/14001, CSP, CIH).
  • Proven experience in managing EHS functions within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and EPR systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
