Job Title

Data Center Electrician
Role Summary
Responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and infrastructure within a data center to ensure uninterrupted, compliant, and efficient power delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on breakers, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, generators, busways, transformers, and control panels.
Quickly troubleshoot electrical issues to minimize downtime.
Power Distribution & Installation
Install and maintain medium- and low-voltage systems such as switchgear, transformers, PDUs, whips, conduit, and cable terminations.
Balance circuit loads and support efficiency targets like Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
Emergency Power Management
Regularly test and monitor UPS, generators, static and automatic transfer switches, ensuring readiness for outages.
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to electrical codes and regulations (NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, local standards).
Implement lockout-tagout, arc flash safety, use of PPE, and follow SOPs/MOPs/EMOPs during live work.
Monitoring & Controls
Utilize building or power monitoring systems (BMS, DCIM, EPMS) to observe power metrics and alarms.
Documentation & Communication
Maintain detailed logs of maintenance, inspections, incidents, and load capacity reports.
Collaborate with operations teams, engineers, contractors, and vendors.
Support & Mentorship
Assist journeyman/master electricians, apprentices, or technicians on installations and training.
Physical & Shift Requirements
Perform physically demanding tasks lifting equipment, working in tight/raised floor spaces, climbing ladders.
Be available for on call duties, shift work, or 24 7 operations as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; trade school, technical diploma, or associate s degree preferred.
Valid journeyman (or equivalent) electrician license preferred.
2-5+ years of experience in industrial or data center environments.
Proficient with medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, including switchgear, UPS, PDUs, generators, battery systems, busway, and power distribution layouts.
Solid skills in reading schematics, blueprints, one-line diagrams, and technical specs.
Thorough understanding of safety regulations, risk assessments, arc flash prevention, and compliance protocols.
Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, teamwork, and communication abilities.
Familiarity with maintenance software (CMMS, CAFM), Microsoft Office, and power-monitoring systems.
