Pre-Procedural Responsibilities Patient Preparation Verify patient identity and consent. Prepare and position patients for procedures (e.g., angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker insertion). Shave, disinfect, and drape the access site (radial or femoral). Attach ECG leads, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, and other monitors. Equipment Setup Ensure the cath lab is clean, sterile, and ready. Set up and calibrate monitoring equipment (hemodynamic monitors, pressure injectors, contrast injectors). Prepare catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other disposable materials. Load the contrast media and flush systems. 2. Intra-Procedural Responsibilities Technical Assistance Assist cardiologists during angiography, angioplasty, stenting, electrophysiological studies, and pacemaker/ICD implantations. Handle catheters, wires, and other tools under sterile conditions. Operate fluoroscopy/X-ray imaging systems and adjust settings as directed. Monitor and record patient vitals and hemodynamic data continuously. Radiological Support Capture and archive real-time images of coronary arteries, heart chambers, or peripheral vessels. Assist in digital subtraction angiography and pressure measurements. Safety & Emergency Readiness Monitor for contrast reactions, bleeding, or arrhythmias. Be ready to assist in emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, tamponade) with crash cart and defibrillator. 3. Post-Procedural Responsibilities Patient Support Help with removing catheters and achieving hemostasis (manual compression or closure device). Monitor the patient during initial recovery. Transport patients safely to recovery or ICU. Equipment Care Disinfect and reset equipment after procedures. Dispose of biomedical waste per protocol. 4. Administrative & Technical Duties Documentation Record procedural data, times, fluoroscopy dose, and medications used. Maintain logs of daily procedures and complications. Inventory & Stock Maintenance Monitor stock levels of consumables, catheters, and contrast agents. Track expiration dates and manage reordering. Quality & Compliance Follow all radiation safety guidelines (wearing dosimeters, lead aprons). Adhere to hospital infection control and sterilization protocols.
