Job Description

Responsibilities of an Assistant Cameraman Equipment Preparation and Maintenance: Set up cameras, tripods, lenses, and other accessories before filming. Perform regular checks to ensure equipment is in good working condition. Lens and Focus Management: Change and calibrate lenses as required. Handle focus pulling to ensure the subject remains sharp during shooting. Slate (Clapboard) Operation: Operate the clapboard to mark scenes and takes for synchronization in post-production. Maintain accurate shot logs, including take numbers and lens details. Cable and Accessory Management: Manage cables and connectors to avoid tangles or on-set hazards. Attach and adjust accessories like filters, matte boxes, and external monitors. Battery and Media Handling: Replace and charge camera batteries. Manage memory cards or film rolls, ensuring proper labeling and safe storage. Camera Movement Assistance: Assist with handling dollies, cranes, stabilizers, or handheld rigs. Support smooth camera movements and transitions during filming. Lighting Assistance (Optional): Help set up and adjust lighting equipment if required by the DoP or lighting crew. Collaboration with Crew: Work closely with the camera operator, DoP, and other departments to execute the creative vision. Communicate effectively to address on-set challenges. On-Set Problem Solving: Troubleshoot technical issues quickly to avoid delays in shooting. Wrap-Up Duties: Safely dismantle, pack, and store all camera equipment after the shoot. Skills and Qualifications Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with cameras, lenses, and support equipment. Attention to Detail: Precision in focus pulling, lens changes, and shot logging. Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours and lift heavy equipment. Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with the crew. Organizational Skills: Keep equipment and shot records well-organized.
