ob Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented ALT Text Writer specializing in Biology content to create descriptive and accessible text for educational materials, diagrams, infographics, and complex visual content. The ALT Text Writer will work closely with content developers and subject matter experts to ensure that biological images are accurately described for visually impaired users, adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA standards. Key Responsibilities: Develop concise, accurate, and informative ALT text for biology-related images, including diagrams, flowcharts, and microscopic images. Write ALT text for complex visuals such as cell structures, life cycles, genetic sequences, and anatomical illustrations. Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure scientific accuracy in descriptions. Adhere to WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines and best practices in accessible content creation. Maintain a glossary of standardized terms for recurring biological visuals. Review and revise existing ALT text to align with accessibility standards and ensure clarity. Provide feedback and suggest improvements to visual content for better accessibility. Required Skills and Qualifications: Proven experience in ALT text writing, preferably in biology or scientific content. Strong understanding of WCAG 2.2 guidelines and accessibility best practices. Educational background in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field (preferred). Excellent written communication skills with attention to scientific accuracy. Ability to convey complex visual information in a simple, concise manner. Familiarity with assistive technologies such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA). Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, and accessibility checkers (e.g., WAVE, Axe). Preferred Experience: Previous work in educational publishing, e-learning, or academic content development. Experience with biology-specific visuals such as molecular structures, plant and animal anatomy, and scientific data charts. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively.
