Job Description

Job Summary: The Formulation Scientist - Gummies will be responsible for the research, development, and optimization of novel and existing gummy formulations, from concept to commercialization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gummy Formulation Development:
    • Lead the design and development of innovative gummy formulations for various dietary supplements, functional foods, or pharmaceutical applications.
    • Optimize formulations for desired taste, texture, appearance, stability, bioavailability, and active ingredient delivery.
    • Research and evaluate new ingredients, excipients, and processing technologies specific to gummy manufacturing.
    • Conduct benchtop experiments, pilot-scale trials, and scale-up activities to ensure successful commercialization.
  • Product Testing and Analysis:
    • Design and execute stability studies (e.g., accelerated, real-time) to assess product shelf life and recommend appropriate storage conditions.
    • Perform analytical testing (e.g., HPLC, rheology, pH, moisture content, hardness) to characterize raw materials and finished products.
    • Conduct sensory evaluations and gather feedback to continuously improve formulations based on consumer preferences.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure all formulations and processes comply with relevant local and international regulations (e.g., FSSAI, FDA, cGMP, DSHEA).
    • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including formulation records, batch production records, specifications, protocols, and technical reports.
    • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs to ensure compliant labeling, claims substantiation, and successful product registrations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
    • Provide technical expertise and support to manufacturing during scale-up and troubleshooting of production issues.
    • Partner with external vendors and Contract Development & Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs/CMOs) as needed.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements in gummy formulation and functional ingredients.
    • Identify and validate new concepts, ingredients, and processes to drive the company's innovation pipeline.
    • Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing formulations and manufacturing processes.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage multiple formulation projects simultaneously, adhering to timelines and budgets.
    • Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's & Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, A Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of [3-5+] years of hands-on experience in product development and formulation, specifically with gummy dosage forms, within the [nutraceutical, food, pharmaceutical, or confectionery] industry.
    • Proven track record of successfully developing and launching gummy products from concept to commercialization.
    • Experience with various gummy base technologies (e.g., pectin, gelatin, agar, carrageenan).
    • Familiarity with scaling up processes from benchtop to pilot and commercial production.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of formulation chemistry, ingredient functionality, and their impact on gummy properties (texture, stability, flavor release, active ingredient integration).
    • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation used in food/pharmaceutical analysis (e.g., HPLC, rheometers, pH meters, moisture analyzers).
    • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant regulatory guidelines.
    • Experience with experimental design (DOE) and statistical analysis is highly preferred.
    • Knowledge of sensory evaluation methodologies.
